Communicating Democracy PDF Print E-mail

Communications is an important cross cutting theme in the democracy promotion work James does both as a professional and a practitioner. He believes that without communication there can be no democratic politics.

To him, developing and promoting policies that encourage democratic practices involve communication in every aspect: clarifying issues, developing and refining ideas, meeting and persuading people, enlisting their support, and employing different methodologies and instruments.  His motto: “We should never be afraid to think of new ideas and to act on them.”

His professional work over the years has made him well versed with all aspects of publishing, media relations and communications. He is able to edit reports, books as well as liaise with book distributors. He has the ability to write in both academic and journalistic prose, undertake qualitative, quantitative field research, has developed good interviewing skills and has excellent public speaking and presentation abilities.

James has the ability to communicate with diplomacy and tact; able to persuade people with varying views and to present information in a concise and accurate manner; and convey difficult issues and positions to individuals and groups.
